NVAO Members,
We hope you had a good Thanksgiving and a start to the holiday season that includes generosity to others.
A number of our members are giving back to their communities and helping neighbors who need a hand:
“Toys for Tots” is always a good way to help a lot of children get a present during the holidays. And for those of us who ride motorcycles, many cities have bike parades and collection sites for donations of new toys.
Food banks are always in need of nutritious foods, and this year is no exception. Most cities have food drop-off locations to help those who otherwise will go hungry.
As the weather gets colder, donations of warm clothes are absolutely critical….coats, hats, scarves, gloves will be much appreciated.
The Wall Gang in Northwest Indiana is participating with four other charitable, not for profit organizations in an interesting and fun way to raise money to help out folks who are in need (many members of the Wall Gang are members of the NVA0). The Blue Chip Casino Hotel has organized and sponsored an event called “Trees of Hope”. Each of the organizations decorated their own Christmas tree in the hotel and people are invited to vote on their favorite tree. People can vote once per day till December 12. The organization whose tree gets the most votes wins $3,000. Second place gets $2,000 and third place gets $1,000.
Click the link below and it will take you to the photos of the five trees. The Wall Gang’s tree is the one with an eagle on the top, along with an American flag and a POW flag. Click on the Wall Gang’s tree and your vote will tallied for our friends. The dollars won will go to help those in need. Click here to Vote
If you live near a VA Hospital or VA Home, you can donate a few minutes of your life and stop in to say hello and wish a Veteran a happy holiday. They would really appreciate the visit and the fact that you remembered them.
Please share with us what you, your organization or community are doing to lend a hand to those who need help this holiday season.
Be careful out there.
