NVAO Update – 17 Feb 24

NVAO Members,

1. Over the past few months, we have lost a couple good friends of the National Veterans Awareness Ride.

George Duncan was a veteran of both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. Many of us rode across the country with George, and others remember his participation in the Brothers Vietnam of Cheyenne. He was always waiting for us when we pulled into the Cheyenne VAMC and at the VFW for dinner across town. George was the first NVAR State Coordinator in Wyoming.

Bill Drummond enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968 and served in Vietnam until he was wounded in a fight in the A Shau Valley in 1970. Bill was a strong supporter of many veterans groups, most notably the Patriot Guard Riders. Many of us first met Bill when we’d visit the Reno VAMC. He was the Nevada Assistant State Captain and then the Nevada State Captain of the Patriot Guard Riders.

They were good guys. They’ll be missed by everyone who knew them.

2. Also attached is an updated contact spreadsheet for members of the National Veterans Awareness Organization. As always, if you change any of your contact information, please let us know and we’ll update the info and include it in the next NVAO Update.

3. The 2024 National Veterans Awareness Ride is about 12 weeks out. We are pretty well set for the ride but as we get closer we’ll announce any major changes via an NVAO Update and on the NVAO website: nvao.us. As of today, all the schools, the VA hospitals/homes and memorial services are wide open and everyone is looking forward to our arrival.

Be sure to get your bike or four wheeled vehicle serviced.

That’s it for now.

Be careful out there.
