NVAO Update – 22 Apr 24

NVAO Members,

1. Sadly, I must report that Norma Faris has died. Norma was the person in charge of the NVAR memorial service in Council Bluffs, IA. She took care of arranging the color guard, the flag raising, the local dignitaries and the nice weather that we always had in Council Bluffs. Her insight into the building of the Wall in the park, the soldier statue  and the life-size bronze statues in front of the wall were inspirational. The members of the Council Bluffs community and the National Veterans Awareness Ride will miss her

2. Attached is a photo of Mike Malmstrom’s funeral that was submitted by John Wilt.

3. Bobbie Durso, one of the folks involved in the very beginning of the National Veterans Awareness Ride sent me some videos that were shot during the first couple rides in 2005 and 2006. When I’ve got some time, I’ll check them out and figure out a way to send you a link to them. Thank you very much, Bobbie.

4. Tony Cunningham sent in an interesting idea. If you’ve got a good, paperback book that you’d like to donate to a VA Hospital or Home, bring it to the NVAR, give it to a State Coordinator and she/he will get it to the right person at the VA facility to share with the Veterans.

5. As usual, we’ll have Ride Books in the Chase Trailer that will have each day’s activities and times of the stops but there have been several revisions that have been made since the Ride Books were printed. We have posted those revisions onto our website (nvao.us). We will go over the revisions when we get together on the NVAR but if you want to see the latest schedule before the ride, please check out the website. Our webmaster, Roger Granbois, has been doing a great job keeping our website up to date and looking beautiful. For you folks to see the latest info, you may have to refresh the website on your computer.

6. Does anyone know Don Propst? Please have him email us and give us his current contact information.

7. For those interested in an updated NVAO Member Contact Spreadsheet, Please contact Jerry.

8. As mentioned in the last Update, if you have any small items that would be fun to have in the 50/50 drawings, please bring them on the NVAR and give them to Kat and Mike Tipton who are running the Chase Trailer till Michigan City and then it’ll be Sandy and Ed Kintzele.

That’s it for now.

Be careful out there.
